The Tree Giants

Ever since I was a child my family always used to tell me to go home before dark and I always wondered why they never let me near our Mango Tree. My cousins always answered me there were what is known to be Kapres (which is also called as The Tree Giants). In Philippine folktales, these Kapres are described as grimy, gorilla-like giant humanoid and is known as a tree demon.

They are known to be very tall (between 7 to 9 feet), brown, hairy male with a beard (but their least known feature is the fact that they reek of goats). From where I live, my family has always owned the biggest and only Mango Tree in the village and tied to one of its branches was my favorite duyan, It's where I always play all day. One night, as one of my friends and I lost track of time playing by the Mango Tree.

I went back to my house to go for a bathroom break and it took awhile but when I came back, my friend was in hysterics, claiming to have seen a giant ape-like figure sitting in one of the branches of our Mango tree, smoking. Ever since that night, none of my friends ever agreed to come to our house to play.
